Adapters and Extenders - Learn More
CURT adapters and extenders come in a variety of lengths and capacities to allow you to utilize your trailer hitch to its fullest potential. Although your ball mount may have the correct gross trailer weight capacity, other factors such as receiver tube size or bumper clearance may keep you from properly hitching up your trailer, cargo carrier, bike rack or other hitch-mounted accessory to your vehicle.
Hitch Tube Adapters
CURT receiver tube adapters are designed to adapt one receiver tube size to another. For example, your trailer hitch may have a 2" x 2" receiver tube while your ball mount has a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" shank. To make the connection, a receiver tube adapter can be inserted between them.
CURT offers receiver tube adapters in virtually all shank sizes, from 1 1/4" to 2 1/2" and everything in between. We also offer specialty hitch adapters, such as our vertical receiver tube adapter and raised receiver adapter.
Hitch Tube Extenders
CURT receiver tube extenders are designed to add clearance for your trailer or hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. A hitch extender inserts into the receiver tube of your trailer hitch and adds a certain amount length, allowing for clearance of a bulky spare tire or large aftermarket bumper.
CURT receiver tube extenders come in lengths from 7" to 18". Some of our hitch adapters are also designed to add a certain amount of clearance, including up to 34" on the #45048.
CURT adapters and extenders are made from high-strength steel, and many are CNC-formed, robotically welded and mechanically descaled right here in the USA. They also feature a durable powder coat finish for long-lasting rust resistance. Adapters and extenders come in a range of GTW capacities, from 3,500 to 8,000 lbs.
